Causes of back pain
Back pain is a very common problem, whereby most of us will probably experience some form of back trouble during our lifetime. Back problems can range from minor stiffness to more severe cases such as a prolapsed disk and sciatica.
Common causes of back pain can be bending and/or twisting into awkward positions followed by a sudden onset of pain. Some individuals may experience radiating pain into the leg (this can be pins and needles, numbness or weakness). However, some causes of back pain can be of a degenerative nature where the joints, disks and ligaments become damaged over a period of time.
About Your Sports Therapist
For the individual athlete, maintaining that high standard of performance in competition, or training is key in helping achieving your goals. However, when you’re muscles become tired and under excess strain; this is where injuries occur and sports massage especially can help.
Clinical Director, Chris Wood, knows only too well of the pain. At 16 years old, and on trials with Bradford City Football Club, he suffered a serious knee injury. Following a long 6-9 months of rehabilitation, the techniques and methods used during his rehabilitation motivated him to help others through the treatment process; no matter how long or short.
Chris is a graduate from one of the leading Universities in Sports Therapy and accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists; the governing body of all Sports Therapists within the U.K. Chris is a fully insured member of the society, and therefore competent in dealing with a wide range of injuries safely and within his scope of practice.
Chris has experience both at grassroots and amateur level to professionals including Rugby Football League (RFL), Lancashire F.A.’s Under 16′s team, Preston North End FC and Witton Albion F.C.
